Fields of the Nephilim

Fields of the Nephilim is a band from United Kingdom that specialises in Gothic rock. The band came into existence from 1984. Nephilim means a hybrid of the angel and human races. The original members of the band include Carl McCoy, the vocalist, Gary Whisker, the saxophonist, Tony Wright, on the bass, and Alexander Wright, the drummer. The band made their debut with Burning the Fields after which Whisker quit. He was replaced by Peter Yates, a guitarist. Their debut album was released in the year 1985 by record label Situation Two Records. The band has had limited success in mainstream but their music has been influential in gothic rock and gothic metal. Initially, the band’s sound had influences from Psychedelic rock and Hard rock having instruments such as the guitar and bass.

Beggars Banquet released the band’s first album which was called Dawnrazer, in 1986. Blue Water, was released next which made it to the U.K charts. In 1989, the band came up with a track called Pyschonaut, which stood at number 5 in the U.K charts. In 1990, Andy Jackson, the ex-producer of Pink Floyd, produced the band’s album called Elizium. A few of their other single releases also made it the to music charts. In 1991, the band performed to a live audience which lasted for two days and was called Festival of Fire. The same year, they released a CD called Earth Inferno, a video called Visionary Heads and an album named Revelations. However, in 1991 singer Carl McCoy quit from the band and was replaced by Andy Delaney. Before the band members decided to go their own ways, they came up with two more albums called What Starts, Ends and Room 101 in 1992 and 1995 respectively.

Carl McCoy came up with another band known as The Nefilim. The band members included Simon Rippin, the drummer, Cian Houchin, the bassist and Paul Miles, the guitarist. This band came up with an album called Zoon in 1996. In 1998, Carl McCoy announced the collaboration of both the bands. However, the original line-up of the band never took place. In 2000, Jungle Records released the band’s single called One More Nightmare (Trees Come Down). The first studio album of the band, under the name Fields of the Nephilim, was released by record labels Metropolis Records and Jungle Records. The album was called Fallen. After this album’s release, McCoy left the band due to quarrels with Jungle Records. Fields of the Nephilim came up with an album in 2005 which was called Morning Sun. This album was released in North America in 2006. In 2007, the band gave a live performance in Finland with Astoria as the guitarist. The next year, the band performed for a crowd of 23,000 at M'era Luna Festival held in Germany. The band has come up with several videos such as Forever Remain in 1988, Morphic Fields In 1989, Visionary Heads in 1991 and Revelations in 1993.
